USE OF CRYPTOGRAPHY IN HACKING

WHAT IS CRYPTOGRAPHY?

The process of transforming information into nonhuman readable form or vice versa is called cryptography.

Cryptography is the science of ciphering and deciphering messages.

                            OR

Cryptography is a method of protecting information and communication through the use of codes so that only those whom the information is intended can read and process it.

In Computer Science, cryptography refers to secure information and communication techniques derived from mathematical concepts , a set of rule based calculations called algorithm to transform message in ways the hard to readable for human.

Information plays a vital role in running of business and organizations etc, information in the wrong hands can leads to loss of business.

To secure communication organizations use cryptology to cipher information .

PHASES OF HACKING

What is the process of hacking or phases of hacking?
Hacking is broken up into six phases:The more you get close to all phases, the more stealth will be your attack.

1-Reconnaissance-This is the primary phase of hacking where hacker tries to collect as much as information as possible about the target. It includes identifying the target, domain name registration records of the target, mail server records,DNS records. The tools that are widely used in the process is NMAP,Hping,Maltego, and Google Dorks.

2-Scanning-This makes up the base of hacking! This is where planning for attack actually begins! The tools used in this process are Nessus,Nexpose, and NMAP. After reconnaissance the attacker scans the target for services running, open ports, firewall detection, finding out vulnerabilities, operating system detection.

3-Gaining Access-In this process the attacker executes the attack based on vulnerabilities which were identified during scanning!  After the successful, he get access to the target network or enter in to the system. The primary tools that is used in this process is Metasploit.

4-Maintaining Access-It is the process where the hacker has already gained access in to a system. After gaining access the hacker, the hacker installs some backdoors in order to enter in to the system when he needs access in this owned system in future. Metasploit is the preffered toll in this process.

5-Clearning track or Covering track-To avoid getting traced and caught, hacker clears all the tracks by clearing all kinds of logs and deleted the uploaded backdoor and anything in this process related stuff which may later reflect his presence!

6-Reporting-Reporting is the last step of finishing the ethical hacking process. Here the Ethical Hacker compiles a report with his findings and the job that was done such as the tools used, the success rate, vulnerabilities found, and the exploit process.

Evil Limiter: Taking Control Of Your Network Bandwidth

Ever wanted to block someone from the network or limit their bandwidth without having the network admin privileges? Well Evil Limiter has got you covered then.

An amazing tool to help you control your network without having access to the admin panel.

Today I'm gonna show you how to use this interesting tool to take control of your network.

Requirements:

1. A PC or Laptop with Linux OS.
2. A Network Adapter.
3. Access to the Network you want to control.
4. sudo or root access on your Linux OS.

First of all we will download the tool from its github repository:

https://github.com/bitbrute/evillimiter

You can download and extract the zip file from the link above or you can clone evillimiter repository using git like this:

git clone https://github.com/bitbrute/evillimiter

Now lets install the downloaded tool on our machine

Step 1: Move inside the downloaded github repository

cd evillimiter

Step 2: To install type

sudo python3 setup.py install

wait for the installation to finish (May take some time)

Step 3: To run type

sudo evilimiter

Voila! That's it, you got it up and running on your machine

Now how do you control your network with it, its very easy.

It should detect your network automatically but yeah you can set it up manually as well using the command line argument -i.

After you have selected the right interface to control, you need to scan your network for live hosts. To perform the scan type

scan

you can pass an optional flag to the scan command which is range which will help you to specify the range of ip addresses you want to scan like this

scan --range 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.100

The above command will scan a total of 100 hosts from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.100

Now after you have scanned your network next thing is to list the hosts that have been discovered during the scan for that you type the hosts command like this

hosts

Now you know the hosts on your network and now you should know which host you wanna block or limit based on the mac address of the host. Remember the host id of the host that you want to block or limit bandwidth of and lets do the magic.

to block a host from using the internet we simply specify the block command followed by the host id of the host that we want to block like this

block 1

if instead of blocking the host we just want to limit his internet bandwidth we can do just that by using the limit command followed by the host id and then the bandwidth that we want to allocate to that particular host like this

limit 1 100kbits

Wohooo! yeah its that easy and yes you can do all this without having the network admin role.

Now if you want to show mercy on that poor guy (blocked host), you can set him free by using the free command followed by the host id like this:

free 1

Well isn't administrating your network bandwidth so easy now.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial.:)

28Mm Italian Wars Town

Regular readers will be familiar with the Italian Wars Project which filled up most of this blog over the last year is so. One thing I did want to add was some more specific period buildings, during our recent big playtests I have been using our ECW houses for built up areas, as a famous game show host once said "Its good, but it's not right".

Like many others, due to the Phobon Plague, I have had to change my plans going forward and the holiday in May is off, the brass was still in the bank account and avaliable for redistribution. Searching through eBay I stumbled across a building (The one on the far right of the row furthest from the camera), I took a punt and was impressed, the rest as they say is history.

Three choices now for the reader, 1) watch the Utubes video below, 2) read the text below the Yarkshire TV special or 3) do both !

VIDEO

Before I continue I would just like to state that Yarkshire Gamer is not a company not do I have anything financially related to a gaming company, I have done a few reviews on here now and they have proved quite popular, I have also tried to concentrate on the smaller companies out there, let's face it Flames of War etc are on every other page of every magazine going.

The company in question is called Empires at War, a company I hadn't heard of before these purchases, a great range and a great service. I had added my mobile number to my order (for the two big sets), the following day the owner, Mick rang me and wanted to check if I wanted the duplicate building in the two sets, a quick chat and I was able to drop another building in to replace one of them. Anyway, link below if your interested.

https://empiresatwar.co.uk

The kits are pretty similar to other mdf kits out there, they are avaliable in plain mdf or for a couple of quid more they can be obtained painted, I went for the painted option (being lazy and not that keen on making terrain). They are easy to put together, I sat down with my son over a couple of afternoons and put all of them together is some quality Covid family time. The only tricky part was the window frames which are a bit fiddly but once you get the hang of it it's no problem.

The same town under lockdown
There are a total of 11 buildings including the one off I bought off eBay and these should fullfill my needs for the period going forward, they are also pretty useful for my Spanish Civil War games. I will definitely be going back for some Roman style buildings for my Ancient Punic Wars Collection.

It was also a good excuse to get some of my Italian Wars figures out for a little parade down the town main street.

Looking at some of the individual buildings now, above is the small farm, a couple of buildings which are walled and can be moved around to make a courtyard.

Going down the row there is a three storey house with balcony on the left, a Monastery libary in the middle (that's the building I swapped in) with a small church on the right.

After the church we have a two store house and then at the end of the street, behind the Landsknecht Pike is a Villa.

The villa is particularly impressive (I forgot to put the end wall on for the photos !). Next to that is the rather impressive clock tower, some great detail on the clock here and the facade reminds me of the buildings in Florence.

Coming back down the street after the tower is a 2 storey building with balcony, a Taverna and then a 3 storey building with balcony.

So all in all a rather lovely town, all done and dusted for £200 or thereabouts, I haven't laid a paint brush on any of the buildings these are all straight builds. The only thing I might do with them is put a wash on the pan tile roof on the buildings to weather them a bit, but with my enthusiasm for terrain I probably won't.

Now what else can I spend that holiday money on 🤔
